Top-100 Ranked Men and Women in Competitive Fitness – Summer 2025

July 22, 20259 min read

This season is a wild one, with the emergence of WFP, the reduction in participation in the CrossFit Games season, some athletes doing everything, others doing seemingly nothing on the biggest stages… It’s a lot to keep track of.

There is no perfect way to quantify the world wide ranking of this sport at the moment. Apollo Performance Analytics is the best look at a two year span, but it is written in certain parameters that cannot account for immediate feedback when an athlete gets injured, pregnant, or, on the other hand, emerges onto the scene and is obviously a contender from the start.

The CrossFit Worldwide Ranking system was never really something to be taken seriously, and as with many of their initiatives, it seems to have fallen completely off the map. The Mountain by John Young is a good reference for a real time look at the elite of the elite, but doesn’t have depth of field to it.

Based on the culmination of my job, travel, and research, this is a ranking of the 100 fittest men and women involved in competitive fitness this year. It is done exclusively by me, Brian Friend. And while it is my opinion and the end of the day, I do think it is the closest thing we have to a real time look at the fittest 100 athletes competing in CrossFit and fitness competitions around the world.

Two rather different top 10 stories. While the women have a clear number 1, and then clear number 2, and then quite a debate to follow, the men are nearly impossible to sort within the top 5, and arguably down to 8.

The women are more divided in terms of where they are competing for a variety of different reasons, and on the other hand, the men are all competing everywhere they can.

This range is much more difficult in general because many of these athletes are only doing either the Games season, or the WFP season; and in a couple cases, they aren’t doing either. And yet, they are all competing, and are all competitive within the top 25.

This summer we may get to see a few of them in action for the only time against a relevant field. Later this fall, we may have a chance to see some others at a variety of off season competitions as well.

In this range there are certainly some athletes I’m putting some faith in with these picks, and there are others whose ranking is just hanging on based on performances from the last couple of years and the chance to return to being almost as good. In those cases, if we don’t see them in competition, and doing well in competition soon, they will continue to be moved down the list.

A huge international contingency of athletes who have almost no competition against each other fall into this range. It has been one of the more intriguing learnings during traveling to all these competitions in terms of attempting to understand how a fifth place finish at Torian will compare to a second place finish in Finland, versus a 25th place finish at WFP Pro Indianapolis, etc.

The competitive fields vary so dramatically, the relevance and timeliness of competitions can be massively impactful, the specific movements and workouts selected at each competition can have a much bigger effect in this range, however, I feel strongly that all these women are in the top 100 if the breadth of test is relatively balanced and thorough.

Naturally, the biggest variance comes at the bottom of a list like this. There are several athletes on this list who some of you will not know at all. There are others of you who may know some of these athletes very well and think they are significantly better or worse than I do due to your proximity to the athlete.

Every athlete on here has shown either the capacity to excel in a relatively competitive field, and/or the ability to consistently show up and perform above average in a significant way against similar fields over and over.

Some of them will move off of this list soon and not ever appear on it again, others will move up dramatically in the next 12 months. This is sort of the fun part of the list where you aren’t sure what the next 1-3 years will hold. They can’t all move up, but some of them absolutely will.
