Friend of the Week: Kristi O’Connell Completes First 50K Ultra on Eve of Birthday

April 17, 20242 min read

This week’s “Friend of the Week” is a name well known in the CrossFit space but has been making the news lately for her fitness in other endurance sports.

Kristi O’Connell is this week’s recipient for the week of April 8-14, 2024 after her amazing performance at the Zion Ultras in Apple Valley, Utah this past Sunday, April 14.

Zion Ultras

Fresh off the heels of competing (and winning) in her first HYROX event and two day before her 35th birthday, the seven-time CrossFit Games veteran competed in her first 50K Ultra Marathon trail run. O’Connell finished the run through the scenic trails of Zion National Park in southern Utah in 5:30:00.3.

Her time placed her third in her 30-34 age group, 14th among all 194 women and 35th out of 454 overall among all runners in the 50K. No stranger to road races and marathons, O’Connell got stronger as the grueling race took place. In the final stage and second longest portion of the race, she had the 11th best time of 1:00:26.72.

Her average mile pace for the whole race was 10:45.
