How to Watch: Elite stream will be available on BFriendly Fitness YouTube
Competition Growth
The first year of this competition was 2018. Back then it was a local comp to the Upstate of South Carolina. Including an “unofficial” competition from 2020, this will be the 7th year of the competition, and in 2022 it was renamed and opened up to the entire state of South Carolina. In both 2023 and 2024 it has also been a CrossFit licensed event.
In 2019 there were 8 divisions and just over 100 athletes at the in person competition, this year there are 12 total divisions and a maximum of 200 athletes.
Qualification
The qualifying process is the CrossFit Games season: Open, Quarterfinals, and then the finals. Individual, and then age group, invites will be sent out beginning on May 1st.
Stay tuned for updates and announcements on their IG account.
Programming
One of the attractive things about working with this competition is their level of organization and communication. We have already been able to work with competition organizer Dillon Knezevich and head judge Dave Hardie in reviewing and refining both the programming and floor layouts.
Knezevich intends to release the programming ahead of time for athletes to know what they are getting into, but from a high level I can say that athletes will be sufficiently, but appropriately, challenged in all the expected disciplines that make up a three day CrossFit competition.
Athletes
I have gotten to know many of the athletes in South Carolina through my friendship and working relationship with J.R. Howell and the competitions he runs bi-annually, and also at the Fittest of the Coast competition in Charleston that I live streamed this past January. There are a lot of high level competitors here, but not many who are advancing to the Semifinals. From everything I’ve learned about FITTEST in the run up to it, I’m excited for a lot of athletes I know to battle for the title in South Carolina this June.
